Steve Fernie

Director

Stephen became a Director at Armsons Barlow (formally Armsons) in 1997, after returning to work in his hometown of Derby.

Stephen qualified as a Chartered Quantity Surveyor in 1984 and has considerable experience acting as a Project Manager and Cost Consultant, having provided construction advice on a diverse range of projects.  

Separately to delivering schemes, Stephen also has responsibilities that include expanding the company’s workload together with the financial management of the company.

Hobbies

Stephen is a Derby County supporter and has held a Season Ticket for over 50 years. When he is not at Pride Park, he can be found on the golf course and is a member of a local golf club. He also enjoys attending rock concerts and the theatre.

Qualifications

  • Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors; MRICS – since 1984
  • Member of the Associates of Project Managers; APM – since 1995

Experience/Sectors/Specialisms

  • Over 40 years’ experience in the construction sector.
  • Strong project management skills (was the Project Manager on The Roundhouse Development [£50m] which was awarded RICS National Project of the Year along with other regional and national awards.
  • PFI project experience, both from a client side and provider perspective.
  • Excellent commercial understanding of projects with the ability to keep financial control of all aspects of complex developments.
  • Experience relating to sustainable and high technology buildings / developments.
  • Proven track record developing and leading creative, high performing, multi-skilled teams on major developments and framework agreements.
  • Experience in preparing capital funding applications as well as considerable expertise in relation to procurement advice, construction programming and risk management.
  • Provides project management and cost consultancy services to a number of both local and national clients including Local Authorities, Developers and Blue-Chip Companies.
