Overview

Ruskin Mill Land Trust (RMLT) provides specialist education for young people with learning and behavioural difficulties. Since acquiring the New Standard Works building in the Jewellery Quarter of Birmingham in 2013, after a period of 20 years of vacancy, RMLT has undertaken the building’s refurbishment to deliver Practical Skills Therapeutic Education to young people aged 16 – 25 years. In addition, the newly-established Argent College has become an integral part of the local community offering work experience, social and cultural programmes.

New Standard Works is Grade II listed and was built in 1880. The project received ‘Highly Commended’ at the RICS West Midlands Awards Conservation Category 2019.

Our Role

Project Management:

  • Acting as the client’s representative throughout the design and construction phases
  • Managing project delivery against the contract and programme
  • Coordinating communication between all stakeholders
  • Monitoring compliance with the employer’s requirements

 

Quantity Surveyor:

  • Pre-contract cost planning and value engineering
  • Preparation of tender documentation and contract negotiation
  • Cost control and forecasting during construction
  • Monthly valuations, change control and final account negotiation
